Historical Perspectives of the Development of Materials Science and Engineering Program at Seoul National University and Vision

This special issue is dedicated to introducing some of the selected research activities into materials at Seoul National University (SNU), mostly focusing on the activity of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), but not exclusively. Namely, some contributions from the faculty members outside of the MSE department are included in order to show that materials research activity is widely active in the University as a whole, both in the School of Natural Science and in the School of Engineering. In this special issue, we would like to introduce when the materials program was started at SNU, how it has evolved during the last seventy years, and what kind of vision we have at present for the future of the materials program, both in education and research.
